Dreaming is Good till it Does Not Affect Life and Career

In the words of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam – Dream is not that you see in sleep, dream is something that does not let you sleep. Life is about accepting the cards you are dealt, turning them around and still emerging a winner. One might not be born with a silver spoon in one’s mouth, one may not achieve overnight success and fame but one can always believe in oneself and make it big in one’s life. Dreams have huge potential – every great accomplishment was once a dream that the dreamer did not let fade into oblivion but worked on it to succeed in his/her life and professional aspirations!

Do You Call Them Dreams?

Most people have dreams – dreams of myriad kinds. And there are a lot of fallacies about dreams. What are the activities that people pursue and refer to them as dreams? Let us have a look:

Kind of Dream Reality
Daydreams Distractions from the work at hand
Castles in the air dreams Wild fantasies with no strategy or basis in reality
Bad dreams Worries that breed fear and inaction
Idealistic dreams How things would have been had you been in charge
Vicarious dreams Dreams fulfilled through others
Romantic dreams Assumption that somebody could make you happy
Career dreams Perception that success in career would make you contented
Destination dreams Belief that a position or award would bring happiness
Material dreams Thought that wealth and other materialistic possessions would pave your way to bliss

What is actually a dream?

It is a motivating visualization of the future that invigorates a person’s mind, willpower, and emotions, thereby empowering and propelling him/her to do everything s/he can to accomplish it. A worth-pursuing dream is a picture and blueprint of a person’s objective and aptitude. A dream sows the seed of possible opportunities in the soul of a human being, that drives him/her to tread a unique path to realize his/her aim.

Putting Life into Dreams

Dreaming BIG is a way of life. When you dream to achieve something, you must chase that dream with a spirit that is too robust to die or waver. You must put all your might and main into realizing it. We have numerous examples of distinguished persons around us, who had very humble beginnings, but dared to dream and strived hard to pursue them. Such people do not let failures bog them down. Instead, with each unsuccessful endeavour, they spring back with double the fire to accomplish their dream. They have audacious hearts and unflinching spirits. They take the reins of their life and continue to persist until their dream becomes a reality. You too can do the same!

This logic applies to just about everything. If one dreams to earn big by engaging in online games such as Swagbucks, Exodus3000, Online Rummy, SecondLife, and Fantasy Cricket, etc., one must play wisely and after adequate practice to make money online. As an example, if you intend to play Indian Rummy, you must thoroughly learn the game and practice it enough to turn your dreams into reality.

Why Dreams Affect Life and Career?

Dreaming involves tightly clutching a vision – a vision of a better life, success and abundance. It might not come easy, as one might have to deal with setbacks and failures en route, but it is definitely worth it. Anyone who has aspired to achieve something big and eventually succeeded in his/her endeavours, knows that the statement is absolutely true.

However, the truth is that most of us give up on our dreams. We throw in the towel when the going gets tough. We tend to withdraw instead of persisting through the grind or the pain of another failure.

It all begins with a Dream

All great achievements initially begin as dreams. Whether we talk about Abraham Lincoln, Albert Einstein, Winston Churchill or Dhirubhai Ambani, and Narendra Modi – all of them dared to dream big and underwent several hardships as also failures to ultimately build not only theirs but also others’ lives and careers! Hence, those who toil hard, and persist irrespective of the number of times they fail, are eventually able to materialise their dreams.

The world-renowned Indian cricketer, M.S. Dhoni had always nurtured a dream to make it big in the world of cricket. Hailing from an average middle-class family, he had to face umpteen hurdles in his path but he didn’t let his dream die. The young man with a dream beyond his means worked as a railway ticket collector before becoming the country’s pride and India’s World Cup winning captain.

The Crux

While the dreams that occur during sleep are beyond our control, the dreams that we have in our open eyes can definitely be of immense consequence. However, in addition to our aims and ambitions that manifest themselves as dreams, what really matters is whether we take actions to convert them into reality or not. Dreams are invaluable ingredients for success. They propel us towards our goal. They energize us. They make us zealous. Everyone must have a dream. And we should use our dreams to give a boost to our life and career – by dint of our diligence, persistence, perseverance, and grit.

A dream doesn’t become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work.’               – Colin Powell
