Floors need to be covered with suitable floor-covering materials to maintain their appealing look. The underlying concrete floor needs to be protected from elements that may cause damage. Both the indoor and outdoor floors will have different coatings. Floor coating can be done to give the room a glamorous effect.

Hereby are the most trending floor coating materials.

1)      Epoxy floor coating

Epoxy floor coating is the most commonly used floor coating in industrial facilities, logistic centers, and even warehouses. It is ideal for areas that are mostly subjected to heavy forklift traffic. It is also resistant to the chemical fluids such as cleaners, greases, oil, and even bleach. The resistant effect makes it ideal for garages in the automotive industry. The epoxy floor coating is designed as a polymer of epoxides. The application of the coating involves the application of the fluid on the concrete floors to create a durable, smooth, and clean surface. Since the application of these coatings is not limited to concrete floors only, they can be used in other areas of building and construction.

Epoxy is used as an adhesive in the manufacturing of wood laminates for desks and roofs. Since it is spill-resistant, it is ideal to coat the kitchen floor. The epoxy coating helps in sealing the pores of the concrete floor thus preventing the leakage of water and other fluids. It is easy to install as compared to other coatings. It is easy to maintain as you can just sweep or vacuum the floor to give it a shiny look. The deck epoxy coating has a sanitary coating since germs and other debris cannot survive on epoxy. The coating is also waterproof and resistant to the growth of moss and algae. The coating is ideal to use in hospitals and commercial kitchens which are at risk of any form of dampness.

2)      Polyurethane floor

The polyurethane floor is structured from polymers that are linked to a chemical compound commonly known as carbamates. Since it is thermosetting, it does not melt when exposed to heat. The floor coating is elastic which means it can stretch easily. Common types of polyurethane floor include varnishes for wooden floors, a cement-based, clear coating applied on the floor to prevent scratches on the floor, and roller and squeegee. The coating is ideal for outdoor applications. This is because it is resistant to UV rays. Since they are waterproof they protect the concrete from extreme damage. The floor coating is sensitive to moisture. Exposure to moisture may cause damage to the floor.

3)      Acrylic floor coating

The acrylic floor coating is designed from monomers such as ethyl acrylate, butyl acrylate, and methyl methacrylate. These compounds are then dissolved in a solvent such as water to form the coating. Since they are not durable enough, they need to be recoated frequently. The coating is ideal in areas with fewer instances of chemical spills or even abrasions. The coating can offer protection against UV rays and it is even slipping and water-resistant.
