Everything You Need to Know to Buy Legal Weed in California

Do you know that the state of California legalized medical marijuana in 1996? 20 years later, in 2018, California voters approved the proposition to legalize the consumption of weed for recreational purposes. However, the details of this 60 pages’ proposition might be complex to most people.

As such, this article seeks to simplify the proposition and give you an idea of what you need to know.

What Rules Govern Purchase of Recreational Weed?

An adult above 21 years of age is permitted by law to buy one ounce of cannabis a day. Alternatively, one can buy a maximum of 8 grams of concentrates present in marijuana edibles like brownies and candy bars.

But there’s a question. How many marijuana edibles can one possess at a given time? Well, this is dependent on the edible product itself. Be careful not to carry more than the legal visit.

Where Can One Buy Weed?

Legally, you cannot buy weed from any vendor you come across. You have to visit a state-licensed recreational dispensary in Sacramento to buy the product. At the dispensary, you’ll need to produce a valid identification document like an ID, passport, or driver’s license to ascertain your age.

Also, remember, it is illegal to buy weed between 10:00 pm and 6:00 am.

What is the Cost of Buying Weed?

Recreational weed is a luxury product. As such, you don’t expect it to be cheaper.

Further, at face value, legal weed buyers will pay more to get their desired product. Reasons for this being, the government levies a 15 percent excise tax on all recreational and medicinal cannabis products.

However, don’t let the initial cost lure you into buying weed from the black market. The consequences emanating from this act might be dire. You don’t want to lose your time and money attending court hearings or paying fines.

Where Can One Smoke Weed?

You can only smoke weed in the confines of private property. Smoking, eating, vaping, or consuming weed in public places is illegal.

Further, it is illegal to smoke marijuana in areas where tobacco smoking is prohibited. These areas include the University of California, California State University, hospitals, public parks, and public buildings.

Can One Carry Marijuana on A Plane?

Transporting any amount of weed, whether recreational or medicinal by plane is illegal. You cannot carry weed with you within state borders or when traveling to other states that consider the use of marijuana legal.

Remember, the Transportation Security Authority, TSA, is the body that regulates air travel. TSA relies on the federal law which outlaws the possession or consumption of marijuana.

Conclusion

The consumption of cannabis offers a wide variety of benefits to the user. The endocannabinoid compounds in weed help stabilize moods, ease depression and manage pain.

Even better, one can optimize these benefits through controlled dosages. It is illegal to buy cannabis anywhere else in California other than state-licensed dispensaries. Familiarizing yourself with the relevant laws is the best strategy in ensuring you don’t suffer the consequences of breaking the law.
