How to Get Legal Help for Mesothelioma Cased by Asbestos Exposure

Approximately 3,000 Americans are diagnosed with mesothelioma every year, and it is a diagnosis that makes up 0.3 percent of all U.S. cancer diagnoses. This is malignant cancer that is usually caused by asbestos poisoning, with pleural mesothelioma comprising 75 percent of the 3,000 cases annually.

If you are suffering from mesothelioma, you have rights and are not alone. With legal experts like Sokolove Law, mesothelioma patients can get the best legal assistance as they seek the compensation and justice they deserve.

What is Mesothelioma?

Mesothelioma is a life-threatening illness that impacts the lining of the mesothelium tissues of major organs. It typically impacts the lungs but can impact other organs such as the stomach and the heart, and other major organ systems.

Pleural mesothelioma occurs when the pleural membranes around the lungs are impacted. This is an aggressive and painful cancer that is frequently caused by working or living environments.

The cancer is caused when asbestos is ingested, usually through air exposure. When asbestos is exposed, tiny fibers will enter the human system, usually through the mouth or inhalation. Those fibers will stick to your tissues, and your body can’t eliminate them as they can with other toxic substances that enter the body.

The result is mesothelioma, which may not show up for 15 or 20 years. You have a right to avoid being exposed to toxic working or living conditions. Those who work in certain industries and professions, such as construction, auto mechanics, factory workers, welders, machine operations, and firefighting, are most at risk of asbestos exposure that leads to mesothelioma.

Mesothelioma Treatment

Mesothelioma is treated similarly to many other cancers, with chemotherapy and pain management. This is often expensive, and will dramatically disrupt your quality of life.

Even so, chemotherapy has tripled the survival rate in some studies. Surgery for mesothelioma will also often increase the survival rate of mesothelioma by five years, which is a good outcome with this cancer.

You will need treatment for as long as two years after diagnosis. You don’t have to do it alone. Build your network of personal friends and family for support, a trusted medical care team, and a lawyer who specializes in helping clients with this health condition.

Seek Legal Help

Compensation in mesothelioma cases is often over 1 million dollars when you work with personal injury attorneys who can help you settle out of court. There are attorneys out there who solely focus on specific medical conditions, such as mesothelioma, so you know when you work with them, they have seen it all before and are the best-suited legal assistance for you.
